Botox and dermal fillers are two popular cosmetic treatments offered at Optimal Hormone Health and Aesthetics. Both treatments reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, but they work in different ways and target different types of wrinkles.
What is Botox?
Botox is a brand name but its name is often used universally to refer to all botulinum toxins on the market. Botulinum toxins, also called neurotoxins, work by temporarily paralyzing the muscles in the treated area to reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles, which are caused by repetitive facial movements such as smiling or frowning. Botox is commonly used to treat wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes. An experienced injector may also be able to strategically inject Botox in the lower face to improve a downturned mouth and improve the appearance of the neck.

What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers, on the other hand, are injectable gels, typically made from hyaluronic acid or collagen that are used to add volume and fullness to the skin. They are typically used to treat static wrinkles, which are caused by a loss of collagen and elastin in the skin. Dermal fillers are commonly used to plump up the lips, cheeks, and nasolabial folds (smile lines).

In summary, Botox works by temporarily paralyzing muscles to reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles, while dermal fillers work by adding volume to the skin to reduce the appearance of static wrinkles.
